Precinct Urban Planning was engaged by Holistic Community Care Pty Ltd, a disability and care services organisation, to provide town planning assistance associated with the development of a Community Care Centre for Toowoomba in Panda Street, Harristown. The project involved sensitive reuse of the existing dwelling “Smithfield House”, which is identified as a State Heritage Place on the Queensland Heritage Register. The internal layout of the existing premises will generally remain unchanged as part of the development. The existing rooms are planned to be used for a variety of purposes including offices, mixed activity rooms, a music room, storage, and laundry and bathroom facilities. Minor building work was proposed to be undertaken to enable access for persons with a disability in accordance with the relevant building legislation requirements.
