PROJECT OUTLINE

Precinct Urban Planning was engaged by Wind Power Development Australia Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Vestas, a leading global wind energy company and turbine manufacturer, to provide town planning assistance associated with establishing Meteorological Masts (Met Masts) on land at various sites at Captains Mountain, Queensland.

The Met Masts are used for climatic monitoring associated with investigation of site suitability for the possible future establishment of a Wind Farm. The masts are of steel construction, 105 metres high and they are equipped with wind and weather sensors at various heights to measure meteorological data. They are intended to be temporary, with an anticipated lifespan of up to 5 years of monitoring activity.

The Met Mast development applications involve a new use of premises and therefore require a Material Change of Use application that is impact assessable. This also involves public notification of the development under the Planning Act 2016. Any subsequent decision to establish a Wind Farm on these sites is subject to further development approval.
