PROJECT OUTLINE

Toowoomba Regional Council identified the need to establish a regional sports precinct to service the growing needs of the Toowoomba Region. This precinct will include a range of sport and recreational facilities at a scale which will attract major sporting and cultural events and strengthen Toowoomba’s role as a major regional centre. A key part of this planning was to seek approval of a Local Government Infrastructure Designation (LGID) under the Planning Act 2016. Precinct Urban Planning was engaged as the consulting urban planners on the project with the key responsibility being to secure the LGID.

As part of this process, Precinct prepared and submitted an Environmental Assessment Report (EAR) to Toowoomba Regional Council in their capacity as ‘Designator’ in support of a request for an LGID for the development of the Toowoomba Region Sports Precinct. The EAR required the coordination and inclusion of many specialist reports such as: Socio- Economic, Soils and Geology, Flora and Fauna, Natural Hazards, Heritage and Native Title, Health Safety and Amenity, Traffic and Transport as well as Municipal Infrastructure.
